Friday drinks reaches Olympic proportions

The Olympic Games came to Highgate Studios in July courtesy of Eland’s Finance department. Even the management team was spotted limbering up over a Chinese takeaway at Friday drinks, before a heated head-to-head Hula Hoop contest. It may not be an official sport for the Beijing games this year, but should London decide to include it in 2012 we think Kasia in Finance stands a good chance of bringing home the gold � with Marketing Assistant Kath taking the silver. Can Managing Director Philip Brown top this at the next drinks?

Eland Cables runs better than ever

The running season continues with the latest Eland challenge of the London 10K Run on July 6th. We are very proud to have had 11 Eland Cables runners complete the run. We managed to tone our legs and raise money for Bowel Cancer UK. Next challenge - a half marathon in September!

Purchasing reveals Friday drinks game plan

Eland Cables had an evening to rival a spell at Wimbledon’s Centre Court with Purchasing’s Friday drinks in June. Armed with ‘rocket-fuelled’ punch, strawberries and cream and party food, the teams left their desks behind for a night of Nintendo Wii tennis � not to mention Connect 4, Twister, Giant Jenga and even some boxing thrown in. Look out for another championship performance this month when Finance takes up the Friday drinks challenge.

Denaby backs a winner!

There were more than just pulses racing at Eland’s Denaby night out in May. The team took over the second floor of the grandstand at the Doncaster Greyhound Stadium for an evening filled with buffet bites and big bets. Mick, Dave and Ivan were among the big spenders, although we’re not quite sure whether anyone went home a winner - or can even remember placing a bet for that matter. Many did end up dancing the night away, however, so good fun was had by all.

Running season has begun

It's that time of year again when we forsake the boring treadmill for the great outdoors and put our legs to use for a good cause. Suzanne, Graphic Designer and Becky, Marketing Executive made us proud at the recent 5km Race for Life Run in Hampstead Heath. They managed to get fit, raise money for Breast Cancer and get some sun all at once. Both Suzanne and Becky will also be participating in the upcoming London 10km Run. Watch this space to see how we all do.

Toby Ward's spectacular 'Tour de France' painting takes pride of place in the reception of our London office, so we were elated when he paid us a visit to see it hung and tell us a bit more about how it all came together.

Friday drinks go off the rails

It was the Rail Cable Department's turn to prepare Friday Drinks last month and we anticipated great things after the last 2 months of impressive efforts made in this competition. Their theme was appropriately chosen as the Euro 2008, and we were treated with European finger-foods, beer and a real-life miniature football pitch right here in the office. Thankfully no windows were broken during the indoor game, we suspect Jacqui's tights may be slightly the worse for wear. Look out for Purchasing Drinks this month.

Football fever

The annual Eland Cables Cup Final took place on Saturday in Doncaster. Much to everyone’s delight, it was a wonderfully hot and sunny day.
